This project is part of the Energy Star program and the Missoula Green Building Initiative (MGBI) pilot program. The MGBI is working to establish the standards to define what "green building" is for Missoula. For more information on MBGI, check out their website at www.missoulagbi.com.
Some unique things about this house are that the foundation is made of Rewards Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF). While the basement is unfinished, the walls are already insulated for the buyers (R-22). There is a 92% efficient gas forced air furnace and a 93% electric hot water heater. Along with R-48 insulation in the ceilings and R-21 in the exterior walls, this house will help lower energy bills while keeping the owners warm in the winters and cool in the summers.
